read Naruto, manga (Naruto (Graphic Novels)) Masashi Kishimoto
What Evangelion 2.0 brings to the table is far more than a retelling; it features an overarching maturity that was missing in the original. Gone is the hysterical self-loathing, the navel-gazing, the relentless self-defeat in even its narrative structure, and most of the confusing and problematic Judeo-Christian symbolism. (The angels, though familiar looking, aren't even named anymore.)
Maybe too much time. Young hero Renton has another one of his weird dreams, crusty old commander Holland is being even more crusty than usual, and Eureka—well, whatever's going on with Eureka is anyone's guess. This is a time to look inward and ask where the characters are headed, and the answers could be more complex than anyone might expect.
